Dementia Sessions
Renfrew County families don’t have to go through dementia alone: the Alzheimer Society is here to help.
The Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County invites individuals caring for family members with dementia to attend its support groups offered in various locations and times in Renfrew County. These monthly support groups offer participants the opportunity to share information, learn, and gain support from others. Support groups are held in Arnprior on the second Friday of every month at Island View Retirement Suites from 1:30-3:00 PM and Renfrew on the first Thursday of every month at Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church from 1-2:30 PM. Library Computer Course
The Renfrew Public Library offers free, quick and easy computer tutorials which includes basic computer use, Internet navigation, software installation, online database use and more. Monday to Friday 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Alzheimer Society
The Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County’s Renfrew support group is held on the first Thursday of every month at Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church from 1-2:30 PM. Drivers Needed
Renfrew and Area Seniors’ Home Support is in need of volunteer drivers to assist seniors and adults with disabilities to get to their medical appointments out of town. While this is not a paid position, drivers receive mileage to help offset the cost of the drives. Call 613-432-7691.

Renfrew Parks and Recreation Department free after-school programming Tuesdays 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School. Children are invited to play games and sports and enjoy a healthy snack during the program. Pre-registration required for this three month program. The Renfrew Parks and Recreation Department is offering free afterschool programming on Thursdays 3:45 to 5 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth Public School. Walking Program
Renfrew Silver Seniors walking program runs every Monday at the Renfrew Legion from 9:30 to 11:20 a.m. Non-members welcome.
Wednesday Mornings
Coffee break bible study for women is a non-denominational Bible study that meets weekly on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with a brunch and informal gathering of women from many different backgrounds. Takes place at the Hebron Christian Reformed Church on Albert Street in Renfrew. Studying this season is in two different groups. One group is studying the book of Matthew and the other Abraham. Greater Madawaska Public Library in Calabogie will host a free information seminar from 1 to 3 p.m. on how to download free electronic books and audio books to your computer and portable device such as eReader or tablet. These free books are available from the OverDrive vendor and are free to patrons of most Ontario Libraries including Greater Madawaska Public Library. 14th annual Robbie Burns Fundraising Supper at the Renfrew Legion. Social hour at 5:30 p.m., Haggis piped in at 6:30 p.m., followed by supper of Haggis, roast beef and all the trimmings. After the customary Robbie Burn Night formalities are performed, the Renfrew Highland Pipes & Drums entertains with traditional bagpipe music, ending the evening with Auld Lang Syne. The band is also celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Renfrew Pipe Band. Tickets are $30 each and available from band members, Renfrew Legion, Home Hardware or 432-6407 until Jan. 22. Kids tickets (14 years and under) available from band members only, for $15 each.

Renfrew and Area Seniors’ Home Support will be holding their 2nd Trivia Night on Saturday February 9th from 7 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. in the Wing Lounge.
